Miami-Dade Country are getting a taste of what it’s like to be held accountable for their actions.
The country agreed to jail undocumented immigrants slated for deportation, but Judge Milton Hirsch was not having it. He ruled that this act violated the U.S. Constitution. Specifically, it violated the Tenth Amendment, which limits the reach of the federal government over states according to an article by 100 percent fed up.
“Of course we must protect our country from the problems associated with unregulated immigration,” he wrote. “We must protect our country from a great many things; but from nothing so much as from the loss of our historic rights and liberties…States cannot cede their reserved powers to the federal government — no, not even if they wish to do so,” Hirsch said.
Though is ruling is not said to have major implications, it sparks a legal battle in front of a Miami-Dade’s state appeals court, one that will be followed closely by both supporters and protesters.
