Franklin County deputies couldn’t believe what they saw when they responded to call from a teenager who claimed he had murdered his mother.
Oliver Mauricio Funes Machado brutally murdered his mother and cut her head off. When officers arrived, he was holding her head in one hand and one of her hands in his other hand.
According to officials, the murder of his mother, Yesenia Beatriz Funes Machado, 35, took place around 1 pm.
Machado said he killed her, “because I felt like it.”
A 911 dispatcher said Machado told him that “he stabbed her ‘like 8 times’ and left the knife in her mouth.”
Investigators said the scene was so disturbing that they didn’t know how many times the victim had been stabbed. There were two other children at the home, the victim’s 4-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son, both of which were standing near the decapitated body.
The children’s father arrived home around 5 pm. When police arrived he was so distraught that he had to be taken away from the scene by officers and relatives.
Investigators found psychiatric medications that were labeled for Machado. It was later revealed in court that he was suffering from schizophrenia.
The family, who is originally from Honduras, had allegedly entered the country illegally when Machado was a boy. The citizenship status of the family remains unknown.
